President Trump initiated a process to designate certain Muslim Brotherhood chapters as foreign terrorist organizations. He signed an executive order directing Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to submit a report identifying chapters in Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan potentially warranting designation. This designation would allow for sanctions against the Islamist movement. The secretaries are required to act on any designations within 45 days of receiving the report. This move targets one of the Arab world’s oldest and most influential Islamist groups.
