NBC’s The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins is a sports mockumentary starring Tracy Morgan as a disgraced former NFL MVP. To rehabilitate his image, Reggie hires a documentarian played by Daniel Radcliffe. As with previous Fey/Carlock comedies, the pilot relies on familiar sitcom tropes, but the series finds its footing by the third episodes. The show overcomes a slow start by deepening its characters, particularly with Erika Alexander’s strong performance as Reggie’s ex-wife. While the comedic voice is initially unsteady, the story of redemption gains momentum, making it worth watching beyond the premiere.
