Taiwanese prosecutors have issued an arrest warrant for OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, accusing the Chinese tech executive of illegally recruiting over 70 engineers from the island since 2014. Authorities also indicted two Taiwanese citizens who previously worked for Lau.
The charges, which cite the Act Governing Relations Between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, highlight Taipei’s heightened efforts to prevent the outflow of intellectual property and talent to geopolitical rival China. These safeguard measures have intensified under President Lai Ching-te, following recent probes into other Chinese firms and allegations of technology theft involving major chip manufacturers.
OnePlus has stated that its business operations remain unaffected.
