Iran’s government is using sophisticated jamming to degrade Starlink, making uploads difficult for protestors sharing information. The US company NasNet has now enabled free Starlink access in Iran — users currently exceed 100,000 — to bypass censorship despite banking sanctions.
Meanwhile, Iran remains almost entirely cut off from the global internet. Monitoring groups NetBlocks and Cloudflare report that international traffic has effectively dropped to zero and has stayed near that level since January 10. With phone connectivity sporadic and secure communication impossible, the general public remains isolated from the outside world.
