Senior Liberals are urging colleagues to vote against Labor’s fast-tracked anti-discrimination and gun law legislation following the Bondi terror attack. This stance contradicts opposition leader Sussan Ley, who has spent weeks calling for urgent legislative protections to tackle antisemitism.
With the opposition planning to block the bill next Tuesday, Labor would be forced to rely on support from the Greens to pass the legislation. The bill contains two major tenets: protections for religious groups and hate speech laws, as well as updated gun laws, both of which some Liberals and Nationals oppose.
