Scientists have achieved an unprecedented, high-resolution view of influenza’s cellular invasion, revealing a dynamic interaction beyond simple viral entry. Using advanced imaging, researchers discovered that human cells actively participate in the process. Instead of passively awaiting infection, cells extend outwards and “grab” the influenza virus, guiding it along the cell membrane. This suggests a previously unknown cellular mechanism, where cells actively engage with the virus as it searches for an optimal entry point, challenging existing assumptions about the infection process.
