Rory McIlroy believes a merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf is now highly unlikely, stating the sides are “too far apart” to form a reunified sport. Speaking at the Dubai Desert Classic, McIlroy noted that any deal would require all sides to feel they have “won,” which currently seems impossible.
Addressing former teammates Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, now with LIV Golf, McIlroy suggested paying fines for playing on the rival tour would prove their commitment to the European Ryder Cup team. McIlroy, currently focused on enjoying the game, expressed his remaining ambitions include an Olympic medal and winning The Open at St. Andrews.
