A recent report suggests that a handful of discounted staples at Costco can effectively offset the cost of its annual membership fee of $65.
An analysis by Business Insider compared Costco prices to other retailers and found specific items with high "payback scores." The standout value was pet food, saving shoppers over $40 per bag and giving it a score of 713. Diapers, baby wipes, and formula also offered significant savings. For example, a jumbo pack of Huggies diapers costs $50 at Costco compared to $70 elsewhere.
Other items, such as Starbucks coffee and Charmin toilet paper, also provided savings. The report concludes that even buying just a few of these discounted essentials can make a membership financially worth it.
