A new project offers PC gamers more ways to play older titles using the D3D7 API, which powered many games released between 2000-2004, including some well-known titles like Escape from Monkey Island. Inspired by games like Sacrifice, the project builds upon the existing dxvk framework to improve compatibility. While not perfect, recent updates have significantly improved performance across many supported games. The project author warns of inherent limitations due to the “cursed API interoperability” of D3D7 and has no plans to support even older DirectX versions, finding D3D7 challenging enough.
