NASA is bringing the Crew-11 mission home early due to an undisclosed medical issue affecting one astronaut. While the astronaut is stable and it is not an emergency, NASA chose to end the mission to avoid any potential health risks from remaining in orbit.
Due to this early departure, the International Space Station will temporarily operate with just three crew members until SpaceX’s Crew-12 arrives next month. This will limit the station’s ability to conduct spacewalks and science experiments. This is the first time NASA has cut a mission short for medical reasons, though Soviet missions faced similar situations during the Cold War.
