NASA’s Artemis II mission will carry a flight kit of mementos honoring America’s history during the nation’s 250th anniversary. Launched atop the SLS rocket, the Orion spacecraft will hold artifacts including a fabric swatch from the Wright Brothers’ 1903 Flyer and a flag from the first and last space shuttle missions. The kit also features an unused Apollo 18 flag, lunar imagery from the Ranger 7 mission, and “Moon Tree” soil samples. International flags from the Canadian and European space agencies symbolize global cooperation. These items reflect a legacy of exploration, alongside digital files containing millions of public names.
