enforcing the rules on the ice instead of on the streets.
Const. Elizabeth Mantha will officiate games in the women’s hockey tournament starting Thursday, with the police force saying it marks “another milestone in a remarkable career.”
“Since her early days on the ice, Elizabeth has climbed the ranks to the highest level, becoming a pioneer in the world of officiating,” Montreal police wrote in a social media post Wednesday.
“She was one of the first women to officiate in the American Hockey League and
the very first in the QMJHL
.”
It isn’t the officer’s first time at the Olympics, with Mantha having worked the 2022 Games in Beijing. She has also officiated in the Professional Women’s Hockey League.
“Elizabeth continues to push boundaries and inspire future generations,” police wrote, adding it is proud to support her and “wishes her tremendous success on the ice.”
The 2026 Winter Olympics run from Feb. 4-22.
