Nuclear startup Antares secured $96 million in Series B funding to advance its R1 microreactor, targeting commercial, defense, and space applications. The reactor design uses TRISO fuel and aims to produce 100 kW to 1 MW of electricity. This investment comes amid renewed interest in nuclear power, with other companies like X-energy and Deep Fission also raising significant capital. Aalo Atomics raised $100M, and Nvidia invested in TerraPower. Even large nuclear plants are experiencing a resurgence, with loan from the Department of Energy to restart a reactor at Three Mile Island by 2028. Antares is participating in a Department of Energy pilot program with plans to demonstrate its reactor next year.
