The Pittsburgh Steelers are renowned for their coaching stability, having only 16 head coaches since 1933. Most notably, they have had just three coaches since 1969. Chuck Noll led the team from 1969 to 1991. Bill Cowher succeeded him, serving for 16 years (1992-2006), compiling a 149-90-1 record and winning Super Bowl XL.
Cowher, a former NFL linebacker, resigned at age 49 to prioritize his family. He retired with a 12-9 playoff record and was immediately signed by CBS as a studio analyst. In 2020, he was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. Mike Tomlin took over in 2007 and currently leads the franchise.
