India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a penalty of over 220 million rupees ($2.4 million) on budget carrier IndiGo. The regulator announced the fine late Saturday, criticizing the airline for operational failures and technical snags that led to widespread flight cancellations in December. The DGCA has also reprimanded IndiGo’s senior executives for the lapse in service, stating the airline failed to adhere to safety and operational norms during the disruptions.
