Due to multiple breaks in the Transcanyon Waterline, the Grand Canyon’s South Rim hotels will close overnight accommodations starting December 6th. The waterline, built in the 1960s and experiencing frequent failures, is undergoing a $208 million upgrade expected to finish in 2027. While the park remains open for day visitors, hotels like El Tovar and Yavapai Lodge will not offer overnight stays. Food and beverage services and other essential services will stay open, but water conservation is urged. Mather Campground will permit “dry camping” with limited water access. Fire restrictions, including bans on wood and charcoal fires, are also in effect.
