A free update (Version 1.5.0) for Mario Kart World on Nintendo Switch 2 is now available, introducing a team-based mode to Knockout Tour. This new feature allows players to race in teams of two (12 vs. 12), three (8 vs. 8 vs. 8), or four (6 vs. 6 vs. 6 vs. 6) during online or local wireless play.
Previously a free-for-all elimination mode where 24 racers battle through checkpoints, Knockout Tour now requires teamwork to succeed. Racers earn points based on their finishing placement, with the team scoring the most points declared the winner. If eliminated, players can still spectate and cheer on their teammates. The update aims to add a cooperative twist to the chaotic racing experience.
