NIEHS scientists are using the long-term Sister Study to identify environmental contributors to breast cancer for prevention. The cohort has followed over 50,000 U.S. and Puerto Rican women, sisters of breast cancer patients, since the early 2000s. We explore how household exposures, chemicals, shift work, stress, and lifestyle factors might elevate risk, leveraging deep data and biospecimens. Findings inform regulatory actions, clinical guidance, and women’s health policies, while prioritizing community communication. The initiative also emphasizes diversity and inclusivity in participant recruitment. Ongoing research continues refining insights into etiology and prevention: https://www.niehs.nih.gov/news/factor/2025/09/breast-cancer-research-sister-study
