Upal Ghosh, Ph.D., highlights the critical need to integrate rigorous exposure science with engineering for effective environmental remediation. Beyond simply removing contaminants from soil or water, successful cleanup strategies must consider how human and ecological exposure pathways change after intervention. Traditional methods often overlook this, leading to ineffective or temporary solutions. Ghosh advocates for an interdisciplinary approach that evaluates the long-term availability and mobility of pollutants to ensure genuine risk reduction. By bridging the gap between engineering practices and exposure science, we can develop sustainable, innovative remediation technologies that protect public health and the environment more effectively.
