Scientists have developed a low-energy method for recycling Teflon® using mechanical force and sodium. This novel approach transforms the highly resilient plastic into reusable sodium fluoride, a valuable chemical feedstock. This breakthrough promises a circular economy for fluorine, a key component of Teflon, and significantly diminishes the environmental impact of persistent PFAS waste. By offering a sustainable alternative to incineration or landfill disposal, this recycling method addresses a pressing environmental challenge and promotes resource efficiency.
