Start-up Humans&, founded by alumni from major AI labs, has raised a massive $480 million seed round to develop a new foundation model architecture. Unlike current chatbots designed for one-on-one interactions, Humans& aims to build an AI “central nervous system” for the human-plus-AI economy, focusing specifically on social intelligence and multi-user collaboration.
The company plans to replace tools like Slack or Google Docs with technology capable of tracking long-running decisions and aligning teams. To achieve this, the startup is utilizing long-horizon and multi-agent reinforcement learning to train models that understand individual motivations and group dynamics. Although they currently have no product, the founding team insists they are not interested in acquisition, believing their specialized approach to cooperative AI will establish a “generational company.”
