In the U.S., Tesla has discontinued its free “Basic Autopilot” package for new Model 3 and Model Y buyers. Instead of receiving the standard Adaptive Cruise Control and Autosteer (lane centering) features for free, customers must now subscribe to the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package for $99/month or pay a one-time fee.
This change effectively forces buyers to pay for what was previously a standard driver-assist feature. While Model S, Model X, and premium Cybertruck buyers still receive FSD for free, entry-level buyers are unhappy with the added cost for what remains beta software. In contrast, European buyers still receive free Basic Autopilot.
