Raimi noted this is a return to the genre after nearly two decades and a chance to showcase McAdams’ darker side, saying, “she really knows how to” go dark. The story was inspired by writer Mark Swift’s real-life experiences with “very tough bosses” in Hollywood, a sentiment producer Zainab Azizi echoed.
