NASA has selected three new science investigations for lunar delivery through its CLPS initiative, with American companies set to deliver the payloads to the Moon no earlier than 2028.
The selected payloads are:
- EMILIA-3D: Creates 3D thermal models to map surface temperature and improve understanding of lunar soil (regolith).
- LISTER: Drills beneath the surface to measure heat flow and temperature changes, providing data on the Moon’s thermal history.
- SELINE: Studies the interaction of galactic cosmic rays and radiation with the lunar regolith to inform safety for future human exploration.
These projects aim to enhance knowledge of the Moon’s history and environment while supporting the safety and navigation required for future Artemis missions.
