Arman Tsarukyan believes he was overlooked for an interim lightweight title shot because the UFC wants to make Paddy Pimblett a champion. Pimblett will fight Justin Gaethje for the interim belt on January 24, a matchup that surprised many given Tsarukyan is the top contender. Tsarukyan alleges the UFC views Gaethje as “easy money” for Pimblett, avoiding a fight with him because it would end Pimblett’s star potential. UFC president Dana White hinted Tsarukyan’s past disciplinary issues, including a headbutt at a weigh-in and a recent withdrawal from a title fight, contributed to the decision. Despite the snub, Tsarukyan believes Pimblett will avoid fighting him indefinitely.
