In 2017, Fromberg Greenways LLC took on the restoration of Chevy Chase Club. Armed with research, Andrew Green aimed to recapture the latest design era that was essentially lost to time. Green’s design philosophy is to restore what was there, not invent new features. With this project, he solved the mystery of the 1898 expansion designer, making a previously overlooked design by Willie Davis the focus. By removing three holes, he recaptured that original Davis layout from 1896. The goal was to restore the course’s historical roots by removing the golf-specific hazards and reintroducing natural architectural features, such as the existing trees and the creek that runs through the property, to challenge the modern player just as they did 120 years ago.
