Belize is mourning the loss of two prominent figures. Michael J. “Mike” Heusner, longtime steward of Belize River Lodge and a pioneer in eco-tourism and sport fishing, has passed. His decades of work championed conservation and sustainable tourism, earning him the 2018 Oceana Ocean Hero award.
Additionally, the medical community has lost Dr. Francis Gary Longsworth, former CEO of Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Dr. Longsworth, who passed after a brief illness, was celebrated for his leadership, major hospital improvements, and deep compassion. Both Belize’s Tourism and Health sectors honor their enduring legacies.
