After a long recovery from a knee injury, Jason Kubler celebrated his return to Melbourne Park with a straight-sets victory over Harold Mayot in Australian Open qualifying. His recent doubles experience helped the world No.192 handle the big crowd on Kia Arena, marking his first singles win at the venue in three years.
Fellow Australian James McCabe also progressed, defeating compatriot Pavle Marinkov on the “Aussie court” (ANZ Arena). McCabe, supported by a home crowd, praised the advantage of playing in front of friends and family. Both players will now compete in the second round for a spot in the main draw.
