Had the previous regulations applied, Manchester City’s £62.5 million signing, Antoine Semenyo, would have been cup-tied and ineligible to face Newcastle. Instead, the revised rules allow Semenyo to feature in the semi-final, giving Pep Guardiola a significant boost.
