NASA is rolling its SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft to the launch pad at Kennedy Space Center for the Artemis II mission, targeting a start date no earlier than January 17. This four-mile journey marks the beginning of final testing, including a critical “wet dress rehearsal” in late January to practice fueling the rocket and countdown procedures.
Engineers are resolving minor technical issues, such as a faulty cable, to ensure crew safety. Following the rehearsal, NASA will set a launch date. While the primary launch window for this crewed test flight opens as early as February 6, several launch periods through April 2026 are being evaluated based on orbital mechanics and safety constraints.
