Astronomers have discovered Alaknanda, a surprisingly mature spiral galaxy, existing only 1.5 billion years after the Big Bang. This discovery challenges existing theories, as such well-structured galaxies were not thought to exist so early in the universe. Alaknanda possesses defined spiral arms, rapid star formation, and a well-ordered disk similar to the Milky Way. Observed using the JWST and aided by gravitational lensing, the galaxy reveals a more dynamic and capable early universe than previously understood, forcing scientists to re-evaluate galaxy formation timelines.
